21st-Century Teachers Must Embrace Digital Tools To Remain Globally Competitive-TRCN

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria has inducted 624 education graduates of the University of Uyo into the teaching profession.

This is as the body said that teachers of the 21st century must be tech-savvy, flexible, and globally competent.

Speaking at the 14th induction ceremony held on Friday in Uyo, the Registrar/Chief Executive of TRCN, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, urged teachers to embrace digital tools to remain globally competitive.

Represented by the Director of Regulation, Accreditation and Enforcement, Dr. Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, Soyombo said the future of education is digital and requires innovation, creativity, and the adoption of modern technology in teaching.

“Teaching should be accorded its rightful place of prominence through the inculcation of best practices, which this induction is meant to promote.

“This can be achieved by being innovative and creative in teaching, adopting new approaches, providing new technologies and methodologies that engage students, foster critical thinking, and promote lifelong learning.

“The 21st-century teacher must be tech-savvy, flexible, and globally competent. We must emphasise and embrace digital tools to enhance our teaching practices,” she said.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, described the event as historic, noting it marked the highest number of inductees in the university’s history. He commended the TRCN for its commitment to upholding standards and improving the teaching profession.

“As a university known for excellence, we will continue to provide a conducive learning environment and maintain the highest standards in education. TRCN’s contributions in standardising and streamlining the profession have been remarkable,” Ndaeyo said.

Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Ime E. Emah, said the inductees included PhD, Master’s, Postgraduate Diploma, and Bachelor’s degree holders across various disciplines. She charged the new teachers to be exemplary professionals wherever they serve.

“You are being formally admitted into a noble profession. Make a difference wherever you find yourselves. Serve with passion, commitment, and integrity. Remember, UNIUYO is a brand—protect it with your actions,” she said.
